Hard to believe: Lychen is an island in the north of the Uckermark. The 7 lakes of the Brandenburg Lake District surround the old town island and provide plenty of fresh air. An ideal place for water sports, cycling, walking, fishing or just relaxing. Located 100km from Berlin, you can reach this beautiful place by water via the Havel River or by land via the B96. If you prefer not to drive, take the RE5 to Fürstenberg and then take the bus or cycle through the large deciduous forests via Himmelpfort to Lychen.
In the Lychen Nature Park you can see 1,200 species of plants, some of which are endangered, 2,000 species of butterflies and 15 species of orchids, as well as many unusual bird species. If you like walking, this is your paradise! The people of the Uckermark love their countryside and have planted over 3,500 trees of old apple varieties along paths, in meadows and in their gardens.
Our cities are getting smaller, busier and more stressful for people. The hustle and bustle of our professional and personal lives makes us long for peace and slowness. So where better to slow down than in Lychen - an idyllic small town with a 13th-century urban structure in the middle of the rich Uckermark Lakes Nature Park? But slowness, relaxation and recreation do not necessarily mean boredom!
Cyclists can follow the signposted routes of the Nature Park Tour through shady deciduous forests, secluded meadows and fields, long riverside paths and recharge their batteries at a forest restaurant. The former railway line between Fürstenberg and Templin offers a different way of exploring the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park.
There are 150 kilometres of canoeing trails through the nature park, including the Küstrinchenbach not far from our house. Hire a raft or join one of the organised rafting trips and glide peacefully down the clear waters. Rafting has been a part of life here for centuries.
